Desktop Display Models is a sole proprietorship started in the summer of 2005. My goal is to provide highly accurate and detailed models complete with backdrop and base. I've referred to my work as "3D paintings of historical events". Much like the model builder's diorama, my goal is to capture exciting subjects in 3D using any media from metals to string to resin molds. In order to make a "3D painting" of the battle of Trafalgar, practical necessity requires that the models take on a size comparable to a large picture in a history book, about 8" to 12" maximum size. Modeling even just the Victory in 1/100 scale requires the purchase of a ship model for $100, construction of the ship, base and backdrop which takes many hours. A realistic and exciting model of the main action at Trafalgar must be small enough to be affordable and easy to display if it is to stand the test of time.

The future of displays for history enthusiasts will stress affordability, accuracy, detail, completeness and practicality. Model railroading teaches us that backdrops and landscaping (or seascaping) brings modeling to life. The trend in motion picture success is accuracy and authenticity for historical pieces. And trends in model building stress accuracy and detail. Desktop Display Models offers one exciting future for modelers and collectors. Whether you want to see a piece of history in 3D, or just don't have the time to build a diorama yourself, we offer a "3D painting of history" you can display proudly in your home or office. Their compact size means an affordable price as well as high 'garage sale' survivability. How many models have you purchased and sold, half-built or never opened? How many built models sit antiseptically on a shelf with flowered wallpaper as a backdrop? Is that what you wanted when you purchased the model? To build an exciting scene with the 1/96 scale USS Constitution required almost 4 feet cubed of space above my TV set. How many models like that will my wife let me keep? And what if I'm not happy with it myself in 6 months?

Desktop Display Models offers alternatives I think people will love and collect. I hope you enjoy this collection. Contact me with your suggestions for new display models. I'll bring our high tech, and not so high tech, solutions to the rescue and build fantastic displays that you can enjoy and show off to your friends. Look over my product list and order one for yourself or a friend as a gift. Thanks and I hope you enjoy this hobby as much as I do!
